Biomechanics
Biomechanics is the application of mechanical engineering principles to biological systems, such as the human body. Biomechanical engineering analyses are conducted proactively (in the design, development, and reassessment phases) or in response to an accident. The biomechanics experts at Guidance Engineering dissect the project materials, review the scientific literature, conduct statistical analyses, run computer models, and perform laboratory and/or field testing to provide comprehensive evidence-based biomechanical engineering investigations.
In the forensic environment, biomechanical engineers at Guidance Engineering use injuries as evidence to reconstruct accidents, determine the biomechanical injury mechanisms, and ascertain consistency with reported events. We also assess injury risk and evaluate the effectiveness of safety devices and processes. Our techniques are tailored to the details of each project to analyze the forces and motions of individuals in a specific accident and can be expanded to examine specific populations. Collectively, our consultants have performed numerous biomechanical investigations within the recreational sports, transportation, maritime, hospitality, and construction industries.
